Summer Term 2024 Course Programme

25th April – Introduction to printing techniques and practical exercises on composition and design principles.

 

2nd May – Collagraph Printing. Explore the quality of different materials and how they can be printed to create textures, patterns and line work.

 

9th May – Introduction to relief printing and practising carving techniques. Develop designs for linocut printing.

 

16th May – Introduction to linoleum as a printing medium. Transferring the designs onto lino and carving. Print your linocut designs on various paper types and experiment with the different attributes of both the printing press and hand printing.

 

23rd May – Linocut reduction; learning to create a linocut print in multiple colours using the same linocut block.

 

30th May – Half Term

 

6th June – Overview of woodcut materials and cutting techniques. Creating and prepping your design.

 

13th June – Carving and printing your woodcut designs using a press or hand-pressed method.

20th June – Woodcut reduction; printing layers in different colours.

 

27th June – Introduction to screen printing equipment and techniques. Planning the image: effective designs and how they translate to print.

 

4th July – Creating stencils for screen print. Experimentation with different shapes, patterns, and compositions.

 

11th July – Continued stencil development and print. Exploring the use of colour, detail and background.

 

18th July – Continued stencil development and print. Refining designs and prints.
